One of the best things about the game’s single player is the way the player’s choices can shape the storyline. This reminded me a lot of the branching story we saw in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The story is well paced, satisfying, and contains some genuine surprises. My only real complaint is that it isn’t longer.
The storyline isn’t the only great thing about the single player mode. The gameplay is also fantastic. When it comes to the ways you can attack your enemies, there really aren’t any limitations. You can experiment and play the game in the way you like best. It’s good training for the multiplayer campaign.
Multiplayer is the meat and potatoes of any FPS, and Battlefield 4 does not disappoint. You start off with 7 different multiplayer modes, all of which are pretty exciting. My favorites include Detonation, that involves looking for bombs and blowing them up in enemy territory, and the classic Conquest mode.
You also get 10 maps, all of which offer a very cool experience. There’s a huge amount of variety here. For example, in Operation Locker you battle in a massive prison, where you have the option of trapping your opponents in cells. Lancang Dam sticks you in a crumbling dam that’s just above a power station. There are so many interactive components in each map, and activating these elements really changes the experience.

While anyone who’s seen a Battlefield 4 commercial is probably familiar with the falling skyscraper on the Shanghai map, there’s so much more than that. For example, you have the chance to take down a satellite or get a battleship on ground. These features don’t activate every time, and that makes it all the more exciting when they do show up.
While the interactive levels are the big new feature here, there are some other improvements longtime Battlefield players will really appreciate. You can finally look around corners, and new equipment gives you the option of taking your battle to the water. On some of the new maps, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of that.
There’s so much variety in the multiplayer that it can be really hard to put it down. If I’m starting to get bored, a change of map can make me feel like I’m playing a brand new game. I haven’t even had a chance to try all the maps or gameplay modes yet, and I imagine there are plenty of new map packs on the way. This game is going to give you your money’s worth and then some.
